MD-80 retired to the Retro Fleet

Post by Michael Blakely »

Following the real world American Airlines, AAVirtual has retired the MD-80 to the Retro Fleet. A Retro certification is now required to fly the MD-80 on regular flights from your bid FREQ.

The pilots handbook, Section 4.0, has been updated to include all current AA, former USAirways, OneWorld, and Codeshare equipment in the table of aircraft available to each rank.

I realize this is inevitable, but maybe a bit premature?

How I feel the withdrawal of a magnificent plane from American's fleet. The MD80 was a great airplane, in addition to the nobleman it was; It gave me enormous satisfactions flying and placing it in my freq; It is one of my favorites. Cry you gone, I'll miss you a lot, but a lot ...!
Goodbye my friend goodbye !

Hebert,
If you take the Retro checkride and earn your Retro certification, you may fly the MD-80 on any of your flights.

Mich,
Thanks for the information, the proposal encourages and excites me to know that I could use the MD80 again on American flights. I will make the request as soon as possible.
Thank you very much...

I just flew this week in real life from KSAT to KBWI and back. Saw an AAL MD80 landing at KSAT. There are a few of them out there still.
