First P3D flight

Post by Michael Blakely »

Here are some screenshots from my first P3D flight.

P3Dv4
PMDG 737-800
Ultimate Traffic Live
Active Sky for P3Dv4 (ASP4)
Orbix Global Base Pack

I'm really happy with the quality of the visuals.
I tried to load Orbix Global Vector, but it was too much for my rig and it stuttered, so I backed that out.

This is my existing computer, but with new SSD, OS (Win10), and P3D, so there was lots to re-install. I thought I was ready, and then I realized I was forgetting:
Flightsim Commander to plan my flight
Navigraph to update my FC9 and P3D ARINCs
FSACARS to record my flight
FSUIPC to get P3D data to FSACARS

But after all that, it was finally a go.

Oh, and you'll notice I turned on the aft SATCOM antenna option for the 737. Given I work for the company that is installing these on American's fleet, I of course had to turn on this option.

P3d is wonderful to virtually fly with. I was wondering if you had taken the plunge. It does tax the lower end systems with all the luscious addons for it. It is a game changer with the cloud shadows. Orbx global really adds to the sim and does not use the systems resources.
Happy Trails to you - I mean flying.

The cloud shadows really surprised me. Portions of the cockpit were in shade and sun as my plane moved through the clouds, and they moved dynamically in real time!

That's the one thing I miss with the move from FSX to P3Dv4, my PMDG 777. However I refuse to pay another $100+ to re-purchase the plane. PMDG made a great 777 but I can't see buying the same a/c again for full price.

I did however break down and do something I said I would never do...purchase another Captain Sim a/c. They had a sale on their 777 and since I didn't have a heavy with my P3D I decided $20 was worth it. It's not quite the same as the PMDG but it is a good a/c (though I've not had a chance to put in much flight time with it).
