Theme flight for September - My pictures
First pictures of the this months theme flight. I decided to go low and slow with the B-377 of the American Overseas Airlines.
This aircraft is a wonderfully rendered model from A2A. Our friendly Stewardess serves us coffee and waffles during the flight. A good flight crew keeps the aircraft running smoothly.
A passing aircraft snapped this one for me.
This is the routing with Vatsim aircraft on line.
Pushing back at ORLY - LFPO Starting at 0400. Way too early to get up.
On the Climb out
Sunrise behind me as I leave the European coast.
Mid Atlantic - somewhere
Land fall of the USA
Here I just made the trip. My fuel was down to the last drop and the two inboard tanks went dry at about 30 miles out. Finished on two engines with 2% left. To keep from running out I chose to continue with two engines. Very close. Maybe should have put in a little more to start, yah think?
Here at KLGA with the wonderful Stewardess, Heidi awaiting at the door to serve the coffee to us all.

Nice shots Wayne.
The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn't it be?--it is the same the angels breathe.

Nice pics Wayne, but I can't believe it only took 12hrs. I would have thought it would take much more time in that a/c.

Wikipedia;Christopher Dahlquist wrote:I wasn't aware that the 377 would make the whole trip but bravo for the effort.
That is all,Typical airline cruise was less than 300 mph; in August 1953 Pan Am and United B377s (and United DC-6s) were scheduled between Honolulu and San Francisco (2398 miles) in 9 hr 45 min each way.
The longest (by distance) B377 nonstops were Pan Am Tokyo to Honolulu in four winters starting in 1952-53. In January 1953 two nonstops a week were scheduled 11 hr 1 min on the strong tailwinds; the following August all flights took 19 hours via Wake.

Re: Theme flight for September - My pictures
Good random thought. My thought, and not randomly obtained, was; 1. I could have put the manifold to flow all fuel to all engines, but that would have taken what little fuel I had and used it faster with 4 engines using it. 2. I have a good flight sim cockpit with individual controls for each engine and I wanted to be able to shut them off and feather them. I was able to watch that happen. And lastly, I was within sight of the airport, descending and needed drag to slow down to approach speed, which If you have this A/C it does not slow down fast.Christopher Dahlquist wrote: I had always understood that the fuel savings from a dead engine was actually more than overcome by the increased drag created by the stationary prop. Add into that the decreased speed overall and I am wondering if there is really a benefit to keeping those two engines dead.
Was there an ability to crossfeed to the empty tanks, or am I missing something else here?
That is my story and I am sticking to it.
