No surprises here, I think.
If anyone wants the result details, let me know. Here is a summary of those results.
The average respondent is a commander (58%) or Senior Captain (17%)
Would participate in a GFI (83%)
Prefers either a Friday (53%) or Saturday (73%) event after 1800z (60%)
Overall
Only 33% (5 responses) would plan and manage a fly in but 83% would participate in a GFI.
I would recommend we start them up again on a bi-monthly basis starting on a Saturday sometime after 1800z and expect around 8 or 10 pilots.
I would also recommend that a pilot with previous planning and execution experience conduct a 30 minute history, orientation and training session to get the new planners up to speed. This to be done prior to the first event.
For one, I am anxious to hear thoughts, Pro and con, on the thought of a new generation of GFI events.
Respectfully submitted,
GFI survey results

Re: GFI survey results
I'm down for a GFI. I don't mind helping with planning. Back in the day, I used to plan our GFIs. This was back when we did FNO.
That being said, my April Saturdays are pretty booked due to running events I have planned. So the first I'd be able to plan for or participate in is May.

Re: GFI survey results
Rey,
Would you be would you to hold a quick training/orientation/do's&dont's for the guys who would plan but have not done it before? For all I know, i am the only one, the others may be pro's at it from times gone by. The survey results were anonymous.
If so, we are camping the southeast until May 1. So sometime in May would work for me.

Re: GFI survey results
We can have a session. Not too difficult really. We had many iterations from just a normal flight to themed GFIs like DAD (need to look and see if the database has been updated), or props, retro, and etc.

Re: GFI survey results
I took over from Rey for the GFI's at some time in the past. We used to have a calendar to post events with, but, alas it is no more with the new PHP service.
This is the format I used for the hundreds of GFI flights I have still on file, although the charts and routing will be out of date.
**********************************************************
Title of GFI
FROM:
TO:
Suggested Route;
PILOT RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHOICE OF SID / STAR
Your route may vary. I will not take responsibility for wrong or incorrect routing.
Distance:
AAL EQUIPMENT;
Time;
FRIDAY;MONDAY; 5:00PM PST; 6:00PM MST; 7:00PM CST; 8:00PM EST;
PUSHBACK @ -10MIN - WHEELS UP AT 0000Z
SUGGESTED LOG ON FOR PREP @ -60 MIN FROM WHEELS UP
NOTAM;
ALL GFI'S ARE FLOWN USING VATSIM. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME AAV REQUIRES USE OF VATSIM.
http://www.airnav.com/airport/
http://www.airnav.com/airport/
AAV FSACARS FREP IS ENCOURAGED
AAV TSP3 IN USE.
**********************************************************
We don't use Teamspeak anymore so the Discord channel would be used for pilot to pilot comms within the group.
The GFI lasted about 2 hours. Any longer then they got boring, especially when some of the group were not in the same time zone, and one has talked everything out amongst ourselves.
The person that makes the GFI needs to plan a route, be able to post it and have the charts handy for all to obtain easily. I made a PDF file with all the information and made it available on line to download the information. Then I suggested a route but some pilots did not want to fly that and made their own route.
There you are, Good luck
