When I hear a plane going over the house, I'll run outside to see what it is.
If it's dark or I can't go outside, I'll bring up FlighRadar24 on my phone to see what it was.

I am the same way. Last year I had a big year. I was fortunate enough to see the F-35 demo, F-22 Demo, Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, Red Arrows, and Snowbirds...across 3 different states (Texas, Delaware, and Maryland)
So yeah....I'm an aviation fan!

I am under the Approach to KSAN and for KSEE. I almost always look to see if I can guess what airlines is passing overhead. The Alaskan and Southwest airlines are the easiest to recognize by the colors.

I'm not quit as bad as Mike. I don't go outside to see a/c flying over, but if I am outside I will always look up to see what plane it is. I'm lucky in that the approach into KDAL goes over my house, and I'm also close to KADS so I see a lot of GA a/c fly over as well. Sometimes I will go to KADS to watch landings and takeoffs.

Re: How big of an aviation fan are YOU?
My favourite park and lawn is right under KRDU 23L departures, especially when they turn left (to Florida mostly)...
To bring lawn chair, have lunch, and spend couple of hours in the shade, with flightradar24 in hand, is one of best ways to spend the afternoon.
I do play the 'guess the airplane' game, with myself mostly, and am getting pretty good at it...
Also, the skies above RDU are sometimes used for holding if there is congestion or weather up north at IAD or NYC, so it is fun to see them holding while still at FL300 and above...
Also the observation platform at RDU was great fun while it was open...

Re: How big of an aviation fan are YOU?
I don't run out to see every plane that flies over, but if I'm outside and hear one I will look up. I work 1/2 mile from the Des Moines airport so when things were "normal" I would see a few planes from there. Our airport is pretty slow right now so not near as many flights coming and going at the moment. I live about 4.5 miles east of the Des Moines airport so if they are doing east departures they will fly close to my apartment and I'm on the third floor so most of the time I can see them out my window.
